Last week we went up to Melrose in the Scottish borders for a couple of days with the kids Naomi (2 years) and Daniel (5 months). We stayed at Gibson Park Camping and Caravanning Club site, it was great! It is just on the edge of town, so about 3 minutes walk will see you on the high street. That being said, the site is nice and quiet. As we don't have a hookup we went on the tent area, which is quite small and as they don't take bookings you kind of have to chance it. But given that the school holidays had already started it wasn't very busy at all. The tent area is next door to a school (not a problem as they were on hols) a rugby pitch and there is a nearby children's play area, which entertained Naomi for quite a while.

The whole site was imaculate and the people very friendly. The showers and toilets were spotless and worked well (no coins needed) and are shut for 30 mins late each morning for cleaning. I took photos of the ladies loos for your information / enjoyment, when there was no-one there to think I was a wierdo. There is a laundry room and a dish washing area, but no camp shop since it is so close to all the other shops in the town.
loos! they were heated and had no mould or spiders! Amazing...
Showers... note, free hairdrier!
wash cubicles
The town offers (amongst other things) a Spar, Co-op, 2 independant butchers, 1 independant bakers, various coffee shops and pubs, a museum, 2 walled gardens, an abbey, a garage and some antique / boutique shops. Definately not a shabby place!! Britain in Bloom is taken very seriously there and the place is beautiful. Apparently rugby 7s was invented there and across the road from the site is Melrose Rugby Club. Waverly Tennis club is next-door to the site and people seem to play tennis there at some odd times of the day!
Priorwood walled garden with abbey in background. You can bring a picnic into the orchard... so it was rude not to...
also good for letting little people gallop about in!

and Naomi tucked in for the night (with Kermit!)
Weather was good, coffee was good, would definately do it again. _________________ Eat my rust!
